People that post videos online generally salivate at the thought their work might go “viral.” This charming neologism derives from memetics - a field that looks at sociology and communications from an evolutionary biologist’s point of view. The idea is pretty simple: information is encapsulated as a meme, a little unit that is either good at replication or not.  If it is good at replication, it spreads quickly in culture. If not, these memes pass from the cultural memory like old episodes of Mr. Belvedere.
